Salka supports veterans and community

As a mother of a Navy sailor, I’ve always felt a deep sense of pride in our country’s service members and our fallen heroes. Three years ago, I set out to organize a Memorial Day event in Durango to honor our fallen heroes, but I encountered several unexpected roadblocks along the way. Feeling disheartened, I reached out to Commissioner Matt Salka, who I’d heard is the son of a Navy man himself.

Matt not only responded quickly, but he worked diligently to remove the barriers that were holding us back. Thanks to his support, we were able to move forward, and the event has been going strong for three years now. Each year, Matt has graciously served as our emcee, showing his unwavering support for veterans and their families.

His dedication to those who have served our country and those who made the ultimate sacrifice is not something you find in every leader. We are fortunate to have someone like Matt who genuinely cares about our community and its veterans.
