Steve Salka’s resignation (Herald, June 16) is a huge loss for our city. He held an important job, is competent and was very committed to upgrading our utility infrastructure (that our city ignored for decades).
I do not know about the disagreement that arose between Steve and our city manager. But given Steve’s outstanding work for our community, his concerns merit public inquiry.
I am, however, baffled by the city manager’s decision to choose Gregg Boysen as the project manager for our $54 million sewer plant. What qualifications does Boysen have to run a project of this size? And, what does he know about operating a complex sewer plant?
It is important that our city do what it can to bring Steve back – including, if necessary, having him report to someone other than the city manager (perhaps a council member).
We need his competence – especially when we have no one else who is fully competent and experienced to do the major utility work that still needs to be done.
