San Juan Basin Archaeology Society to host field trip to view arborglyphs

San Juan Basin Archaeology Society will host a field trip to view arborglyphs Friday, July 23, at Beaver Creek and Piedra Stock Driveway.

Participants will learn about the history of sheepherding in Southwest Colorado with a full day tour of carved aspen trees or arborglyphs in Beaver Meadows and along the Piedra Stock Driveway in the San Juan National Forest, guided by Andrew Gulliford, professor of history at Fort Lewis College.

Gulliford’s recent book, “The Woolly West,” won the Colorado Book Award and the Wrangler Award for Outstanding Nonfiction.
