San Juan Basin, Intermountain League tournaments rescheduled because of weather

Bobcats, Wolverines will start play Saturday
The Class 2A San Juan Basin League District 3 Tournament was postponed because of inclement weather, it was announced on Friday. Tournament games will now be held Saturday and Sunday at Durango High School.

The Ignacio High School boys and girls basketball teams will have to wait to get their postseasons underway, after the Class 2A San Juan Basin League District 3 Tournament was postponed early Friday because of inclement weather.

The Class 3A Intermountain League Tournament, hosted by Montezuma-Cortez High School, was already postponed until this weekend.

The league said Friday that the games were postponed because of the snowstorm, which has dropped 16 inches of snow since Wednesday. More snow is expected to continue throughout Friday evening.

The San Juan Basin League tournament, which will be held at Durango High School, was moved from Friday and Saturday to Saturday and Sunday.

The top-seeded Ignacio girls basketball team (13-6, 12-0 2A/1A San Juan Basin League) will play No. 5 seed Telluride in the opening round, after they defeated No. 4 seed Mancos 27-20 on Tuesday at Mancos High School. IHS will tip off against the Miners at 4 p.m. Saturday.

The No. 2 seed Ignacio boys basketball team (10-8, 9-2 SJBL) will take on No. 3 Dolores at 8:30 p.m. Saturday. The No. 1 seed, Mancos (10-8, 9-2 SJBL), who won the tiebreaker over Ignacio, will play No. 4 Telluride at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, after the Miners escaped No. 5 Ridgway in a 58-56 play-in game win on Tuesday.

The tournament will conclude Sunday. The third-place consolation games tip off starting with the girls at 10 a.m. and the boys at 11:30 a.m. The championship round is set to begin at 1 p.m. Sunday with the girls, followed by the boys at 2:30 p.m..

Bayfield High School

The Class 3A IML Tournament announced Wednesday evening that the semifinals and championship will now be held Saturday and Monday.

The No. 2 seed Bayfield boys basketball team (11-8, 6-4 3A Intermountain League) will play the No. 3 seed and host Montezuma-Cortez (15-5, 5-5 IML) in the semifinals at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at M-CHS.

The other semifinal game between No. 1 seed Centauri and No. 4 Alamosa is set to take place on Saturday with the tip-off time and a neutral site to be determined. Neither team was able to make it over Wolf Creek Pass because of the storm, and the teams agreed that a neutral site would be determined as a secondary option.

The championship game will be held at 5 p.m. Monday at M-CHS, with the consolation game set for 2 p.m.

As a result of the delayed final rounds, the rest of the 3A state tournament will not be seeded until Tuesday morning, according to the Colorado High School Activities Association.
