Phone scammers are pretending to be San Juan Basin Public Health staff and asking businesses to pay for retail food licenses, according to the health department.
A business in Pagosa Springs and a business in Durango reported the scam calls last week.
Current retail food licenses are valid through Dec. 31. Businesses will be invoiced through the mail for 2020 licenses. San Juan Basin Public Health does not solicit any type of payments over the phone.
The businesses that must have a retail food license include restaurants, grocery stores, convenience stores and food trucks.
Businesses should not provide any information over the phone for a retail food license.
Call San Juan Basin Public Health directly with questions at 335-2052, ext. 6, or email eh@sjbpublichealth.org.
