San Juan Citizens Alliance creates chaos – again

The San Juan Citizens Alliance, an outside-funded group, is once again putting its finger on the scale in our local La Plata County elections. Their latest email campaign suggests that community-minded LPEA candidates are somehow agents of “chaos and destruction.” That’s just not laughable – it’s false.

To question a non-transparent power contract with a foreign energy trader like Mercuria isn’t chaos – it’s common sense. LPEA’s deal trades local control for global market risk, with no guarantee of price stability or reliable backup power. Despite promises of “10% savings,” our rates are still rising and there is not a single shovel-ready local project in place.

Progress? I think not. It’s more of a gamble to me. All LPEA members deserve steady leadership that puts ratepayers first without the political theater driven by activist groups with national agendas. We need to focus on affordable, reliable energy not ideology or speculation.

Bring back local control, transparency, accountability with common sense candidates and vote by district: Dave Peters, District 3; Brad Blake, District 2; Lyle McKnight, District 4; and Dusty Mars, District 1.
