At the March 3 San Juan College board meeting, board officers were selected to serve the next two-year term.
Joe Rasor, who represents District 4, was elected to serve as the new board chairman, replacing John Thompson. Rasor, a Bloomfield resident, worked in the Bloomfield Public School District serving in many roles including superintendent, principal, assistant principal, special education director, guidance counselor and classroom teacher.
Hoskie Benally Jr., who represents District 1, was elected to serve as vice president of the board. Benally is a Shiprock resident who serves as a community and government liaison for the Native American Disability Law Center.
District 6 representative R. Shane Chance will serve as secretary of the board. Chance earned his associated degree from San Juan College and his bachelor’s degree in accountancy from New Mexico State University. He is a certified public accountant and owns an accounting firm in Aztec.
Completing the representation of the San Juan College board as members include: Evelyn Benny, representing District 2; Byron Manning, representing District 3; John Thompson, representing District 5; and Valerie Uselman, representing District 7.
