San Juan College to give away trees to community

For the third year in a row, San Juan College will give away trees to the community at 8 a.m. Friday for Arbor Day. Trees will be distributed in a drive-thru event until the supply runs out.

San Juan College grounds crew has grown more than 700 trees in 11 varieties to give to community members and students for this year’s giveaway. The bare root will be wrapped in burlap and ready for planting immediately. Trees available include piñon, black walnut, white oak, Chinese chestnut and more.

For the tree giveaway, community members and students should enter San Juan College campus through Education Drive off Pinon Hills Boulevard and follow the signs to the San Juan College Greenhouse. Volunteers will be on site to help, and an arborist will be available to answer questions.

Participants should wear a mask and stay in their vehicle. One tree will be available per person.

Although the trees are free, donations will be accepted through the San Juan College Foundation for the project.
