San Juan College’s Occupational Therapy Assistant Program will host a free event featuring the guidelines of CarFit from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday in the parking lot behind the School of Health Sciences and directly in front of the SJC Bookstore (Parking Lot C) on the main campus.
CarFit is designed to help drivers find out how well they currently fit their personal vehicle, to highlight actions they can take to improve their fit and to promote conversations about driver safety and community mobility.
OTA faculty and students, who are trained technicians, will lead participants through a 20-minute, COVID-19 safe, 12-point checklist and recommend vehicle adjustments and adaptations that could be make for a better “fit.” While the event has been traditionally aimed at older drivers, anyone is welcome to attend the event.
All SJC staff members and students will wear masks during the event. They will also follow guidelines to disinfect and maintain a safe environment and experience. Drivers will be asked to remain in their car during the process.
Drive-ins are welcome at the CarFit event, but participants may call (505) 566-3849 to reserve an appointment.
