San Juan County Assessor’s Office to help New Mexican veterans with property tax exemption

The San Juan County Assessor’s Office and the New Mexico Department of Veterans Services will be hosting an in-office service day to assist veterans with property tax exemptions from 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. March 10 at the Assessor’s Office in Aztec.

To show proof of veteran status, bring a copy of one of these forms: DD-214, National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration Form 56-16, or U.S. Public Health Service Form 1867.

If filing for the disabled property tax exemption, bring a letter from the VA declaring 100% permanent and total service-connected disability rating.

To show proof of New Mexico residency, bring one of the following: valid New Mexico driver’s license, voter registration card or latest New Mexico income tax return.
