In response to three presumptive positive cases of COVID-19 in the state of New Mexico, the San Juan County Office of Emergency Management has increased the state of awareness in the Emergency Operations Center to Level 2 of emergency preparedness, which entails a heightened situational awareness, not a full activation of the Emergency Operations Center.
While select areas around the country are experiencing person-to-person and community spread of the COVID-19, San Juan County and the surrounding area has still not seen any cases.
San Juan County already has plans in place for any necessary response to the coronavirus spreading to New Mexico. Risks to seniors and immunocompromised people are heightened with this virus. The county is not currently restricting visitors to nursing homes, but it is highly recommend that families and visitors refrain from visiting their loved ones at this time in order to protect their health and well-being. People should check with the facility for other options to “visit” through other electronic methods.
Those who have symptoms can call the state’s 24/7 hotline at (855) 600-3453.
