John Mohler will be the next fire chief of the San Juan County Fire Department.
Mohler currently serves as the deputy fire chief for the San Juan County Fire Department and fire chief for the Bloomfield Fire Department. He has served in various capacities in the fire service since starting as a volunteer firefighter in 1995. Mohler is a third-generation firefighter.
Most recently, Mohler graduated from the National Fire Academy’s Executive Fire Officer program. The program provides senior fire officers with a broad perspective on various facets of fire and emergency medical services administration. The courses and accompanying research examine how to exercise leadership when dealing with difficult or unique problems within communities. Mohler is one of just two in the region with such a certification.
He will take over as San Juan County Fire Department chief on Dec. 28, after the retirement of Chief Craig Daugherty.
