San Juan Mountains Association, businesses launch ‘Weminuche Month’ to support wilderness stewardship

October is “Weminuche Month” for the San Juan Mountains Association and local businesses.

The goal is to raise money for SJMA’s Weminuche Wilderness Stewardship Fund to support improved trail access and on-the-ground stewardship of Colorado’s largest wilderness area, the Weminuche Wilderness.

Local businesses will ask customers to donate to the Weminuche Wilderness Stewardship Fund with all money going to support SJMA’s wilderness stewardship program. Donations of $5 or more will receive a “Wild for the Weminuche” bumper sticker and donations of $25 or more will receive a “Wild for the Weminuche” hat and membership to San Juan Mountains Association.

Contribute during the month of October by opening a new personal checking account with Alpine Bank and selecting the environment debit card, donating used gear at Durango Outdoor Exchange or visiting participating retailers such as Backcountry Experience, Pine Needle Mountaineering, Pine Needle Dry Goods, Crow’s Closet, 4Corners Riversports and Durango Outdoor Exchange.
