The Payroll Department recently awarded San Juan Mountains Association a $7,000 matching grant to support SJMA’s merger with Durango Nature Studies and the launch of a re-envisioned outdoor education program throughout Southwest Colorado.
The combined program plans to reach every third, fifth and seventh grade student in Durango School District 9-R on an annual basis while conducting systematic outreach to youths in Montezuma County.
SJMA is continuing the DNS tradition of summer camp for local youths. Registration is open at www.sjma.org.
SJMA has launched a fundraising campaign to match The Payroll Department’s grant through individual donations. All funds raised go to support the combined outdoor education programming.
Donations of $50 or more will receive a “Wild for the Weminuche Wilderness” T-shirt from SJMA. Donations may be made online at www.sjma.org or by mail to SJMA at P.O. Box 2261, Durango, CO 81302.
