San Juan Mountains Association will host an information session and hands-on workshop with volunteer Tom Galbraith, about how to use GaiaGPS, a USGS topographical-map application for smart phones:
The information session will be held 5 to 8 p.m. on April 20 at San Juan Public Lands Center, 15 Burnett Court. Galbraith will discuss the pros and cons of using mobile applications to navigate in the backcountry and show participants how to download and use GaiaGPS on their smart phones.The hands-on workshop will be held 9 a.m. to noon on April 22 at the Dalla Mountain Park trailhead, located west of Camino del Rio on Junction Street (25th Street). Galbraith will lead a short hike and help participants use GaiaGPS to navigate.Participants should bring their smart phones, water, snacks, and appropriate shoes and clothing for the hike.
