The San Juan National Forest is requesting proposals for a 70-acre thinning project on the Columbine Ranger District.
The project is in the Junction Creek area near the vicinity of the Log Chutes 2 Trail. This project will thin suppressed, small diameter ponderosa pine trees to improve the health of remaining trees. It will also reduce fire hazard by breaking up the horizontal continuity of the forest canopy.
The work entails cutting, skidding and decking of trees, as well as hand piling of slash. No log hauling or removal is required.
