San Juan Regional Medical Center recently discharged its 100th COVID-19 patient from the hospital. To date, more than 120 COVID-19 survivors have gone home after battling the virus in the hospital.
“A lot of attention has focused on how many new cases of COVID-19 we are seeing per day, as well as the number of deaths. Let’s not forget about the number of people who have survived. We want to celebrate them as well,” said SJRMC President and CEO Jeff Bourgeois.
To celebrate this milestone, San Juan Regional Medical Center is joining with hospitals across the nation by playing “Here Comes the Sun” by the Beatles every time a patient with COVID-19 is discharged.
San Juan Regional Medical Center also plans to begin honoring COVID-19 patients at discharge with a celebration where employees will line up under the portico outside the hospital’s main entrance to cheer and clap as the patient leaves the facility.
“This is a celebration of life,” said Chief Nursing Officer Suzanne Smith. “It’s a great way for us to recognize these patients and the hard work our caregiving teams are putting in to save lives.”
The hospital is grateful to its hardworking caregivers for taking care of COVID-19 patients and making a difference.
As one COVID-19 survivor who spent 12 days on the COVID floor said: “This place saved my life. Shout out to SJRMC and the nursing staff on the COVID floor. I couldn’t have asked for better care. From the doctors to the nurses, everyone in the ER, everyone was wonderful.”
