Santa Fe man shot by girlfriend’s teenage son dies

SANTA FE – A 16-year-old Santa Fe boy will likely face more charges in the shooting of his mother’s boyfriend in the wake of the man’s death.

The Santa Fe New Mexican reports that 39-year-old Ricardo Magana succumbed to his injuries Sunday from last month’s shooting.

Deputy Chief Ben Valdez says an autopsy will be done before determining whether to file more charges.

The teen’s mother called 911 and said her son fired a shotgun after Magana tried to attack her with a bat. According to his mother, he fired a warning shot and then a second round that hit Magana.

Police say the teen took off in his mother’s car but was apprehended May 7, a week after the shooting.

The teen remains in juvenile detention on aggravated battery and evidence tampering.
