Saturday print editions of Herald moving to Sunday

Beginning Sunday, Oct. 23, The Durango Herald’s weekend edition will be published Sunday rather than Saturday.

With the change, print papers will be published Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.

Numerous readers have told us that the gap between the Saturday and Wednesday editions was too long. The new Sunday publication allows for full reporting of events Friday evening and Saturday afternoon.

The change will not affect popular newspaper features such as grocery ads and weekend calendars on Wednesday and Friday.

This change comes at the same time that the Herald moves its printing operations from Farmington to the Santa Fe New Mexican’s plant. Its press equipment will deliver increased print quality and a slightly different sized page, a half-inch shorter and wider. The change in dimensions likely won’t be noticeable to readers, but it will provide a handy magazine format for the Herald’s popular special sections. The engineered design of the New Mexican’s modern presses makes that benefit possible.

While the print paper is being adjusted largely based on what we hear from readers, the Herald will continue to publish stories online throughout the week. Forty percent of Herald subscribers have digital-only subscriptions, reading daily news reports at www.durangoherald.com or digital reproductions of the newspaper on the eEdition.

Digital subscriptions continue to grow.
