Becca Schaldach, Animas High School class of 2017, recently graduated with a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering with honors from Colorado State University, Walter Scott Jr. College of Engineering.
She was recently awarded first place in the Senior Year Mechanical Engineering Research Competition and received the Steven L. Schaeffer, Ph.D. Senior Manufacturing Award.
Schaldach, under the guidance of professor Kirk McGilvray, researched the development of medical implants that encourage tissue regeneration to repair rotator cuff tears in the shoulder for an Engineering Days project.
She created a system that replicates the in vivo environment of the rotator cuff to test implant candidates.
