You can’t imagine the hilarity around my home Sunday morning, Dec. 11, when I read the Connie Schultz piece in the Herald on why I should give newspaper subscriptions as gifts to my loved ones.
I had already taken sick over the Paul Krugman screed on making America “gasp” again (Herald, Dec. 10). Now I’m frantically searching for a Froma Harrop gem and, how sad, the featured Kathleen Parker blog.
But, back to Connie Schultz. She’s really upset with President-elect Donald Trump for having the temerity to send away opinion columnists posing as reporters. In case you at the Herald are not aware, Connie Schultz is a flaming liberal. Trump is not.
If the Herald didn’t run the occasional Krauthammer column, we poor conservatives would never read anything supporting the Republican/conservative aspect.
However, we are dealing with the Herald liberal bent even when it’s usually outrageous. Again, we would really love it if someone working for the paper, Ann Butler excepted, could take a crack at what’s happening from a neutral viewpoint.
Probably not going to happen as liberal arts colleges have generally lost their collective way and are cranking out liberal journalism graduates almost exclusively. These liberal folks either teach or work for the Washington Post or The New York Times (or the Los Angeles Times or the Chicago Tribune) or The Durango Herald. Why would someone as smart as Trump want anything to do with them?
There are a large number of residents in this beautiful, small college community who subscribe to the Herald because and only because there is no legitimate alternative newspaper in this town. So, we put up with your ridiculous, biased stance on politics – local, state and federal.
Can you even imagine what a great newspaper the Herald might be if you edited from the middle instead of the far, progressive, liberal left?
According to Mr. Trump, since 1970, this country has shut down or lost to other countries 70,000 factories/small businesses. He is going to try to get some of them back. Hold on tight, liberals. It’s going to be a thrilling ride!
The Herald might even report it.
