The Fort Lewis College men’s basketball team jumped out to a 17-0 lead against Metropolitan State University of Denver on Friday and never looked back. The Skyhawks took a 45-24 lead into halftime and eventually prevailed 80-61 in the pivotal RMAC contest.
FLC can now win the regular-season league championship outright with a victory over the Colorado School of Mines at 7 p.m. Saturday in Whalen Gymnasium.
FLC women fall to Metro
The women’s game had a similar start to the men’s game, except it was the Roadrunners who made a big early push and took an 18-2 lead in the first quarter. The Skyhawks trailed 20-6 after one quarter, but played pretty even with Metro after that. Metro only won the second quarter by one point while FLC won the fourth frame by six. The Skyhawks, however, couldn’t dig out of the early hole and Metro eventually won 67-51.
