The Great Southwest Council of Northern New Mexico and the Four Corners is excited about the future of Scouting.
Scouting is alive and needed now more than ever by America’s youths. A study by Tufts University measuring the character development of Scouts and non-Scouts demonstrated that Scouting builds character. It provides young people a foundation to embrace opportunity and achieve goals, in a fun program. Scouting continues to offer life-changing experiences and the opportunity to build lifelong friendships.
Moving into the future, Scouting is safer, wiser and more inclusive than ever. We have learned from past mistakes and are committed to help today’s youths achieve their full potential. You may have heard that the National Scouting organization filed for Chapter 11. What you may not know is this action was taken with two goals: to appropriately compensate victims of predators who used our organization to violate youths and allow Scouting to continue for the youths of today and tomorrow.
We embrace the future, and do not want to lose sight of the tradition and strengths of Scouting. We are committed to the Scouting values of service and leadership developed through our outdoor programs. In an era where screen time is impacting kids, Scouting is the one program that offers kids the opportunity to get outside and build character. We have worked through the challenges presented by the pandemic and grown membership by 600 in 2021.
