Did anyone else notice the yellow Animas River on Presidents Day? I’ve been told that the water company uses some Animas water in the winter but not to worry, it doesn’t contain large doses of toxic minerals. Sounds a lot like Flint. Our kids and grandkids drink from fountains at school, the Rec Center, as well as sodas – all with city water.
Yet Silverton was not yet ready to vote for the Superfund! My question is why does Silverton even get a vote? We the downstream communities are getting the toxic waste while they drink pure water from unaffected streams. You would think they had 50,000 voters for our state elected officials to act so wishy-washy.
What can we do? Yell and shout! If you know an elected official call him or her, and if not, send an email. If you have a in with a newspaper, contact that person and tell them to protect Durango with stories and editorials. If we act like sheep, we will be treated like sheep.
