Search begins for new Fort Lewis College president

The Board of Trustees for Fort Lewis College launched its national search for a new college president after President Dene Thomas’ announcement that she will retire in June 2018, according to a news release.

The trustees appointed a 12-person presidential search committee that includes faculty, students, administrators, staff, alumni and community members.

“I am honored to lead an incredibly diverse committee,” Trustee Richard Kaufman said in the release. “We are committed to conducting a search process that will be open, inclusive and exhaustive. We invite everyone to participate.”

Committee members include:

Faculty members: Michael Valdez, David Blake and Sue Kraus.Students: Dustin Fink and Tara Abrams.Administrator: Glenna Witt Sexton.Staff member: Tracey Piccoli.FLC Foundation member: Keith Newbold.Alumni: Matt Taylor.Community member: Kerry Siggins.Trustees: Kaufman and Ernest House Jr.Thomas was hired in March 2010 as the eighth president of the institution and the first woman to serve in the role.

The new president will be hired in the spring, and his or her term will begin July 1, 2018.

A website has been created that details the search process, and it will be periodically updated with the latest news about the search.
