La Plata County Search & Rescue spent the late afternoon of Good Friday rescuing a fisherman near Hermosa Creek.
“He went down and fished, then it sounds like he got rim-rocked,” said Butch Knowlton, the director of emergency preparedness for the county, at about 5:55 p.m. “It sounds like he didn’t have very good foot gear, went into some very steep terrain where a cliff stopped him from ascending.”
The fisherman was fishing due west of the Lower Hermosa Creek Campground, Knowlton said.
Just before 6 p.m., four search and rescue volunteers were geared up and preparing to hike to the site, and another four were on their way to help. There were no injuries reported.
“I asked him to sit in place,” Knowlton said, “And he’s in a good place watching the sun set. We’ll be getting to him soon.”
Knowlton did not know where the fisherman lives, but said he called 911 from a cellphone with a 303 area code, which is the Denver area.
