Searchers looking for 2 men missing after Colorado avalanche

VAIL – Searchers are looking for two men who are missing and presumed dead after a weekend avalanche in the Vail area, the Eagle County Sheriff’s Office said Sunday.

Three men were snowmobiling in the mountains of central Colorado when they were caught in the slide, which happened at about 4:45 p.m. Saturday near Muddy Pass, the sheriff’s office said. The pass is about 10 miles north of Vail. One man was able to free himself and call for help.

“Currently there is an active search and recovery mission for the other two individuals involved,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement at mid-day Sunday.
