Durango’s Sears store will remain open and is not part of the Sears Holding Corp. bankruptcy filed Monday.
The Durango store is a franchise of a separate corporation, the Sears Hometown and Outlet Stores Inc., which split from Sears Holdings Corp. in 2012. Sears Hometown and Outlet Stores Inc. is a publicly owned company traded on Nasdaq under the symbol SHOS.
“We’re a locally owned franchise. We’re in good shape, and we’re in a good place to help our customers,” said Michael Martinez, manager of the Durango Sears Hometown store.
The store sells appliances, tools, furnishings and lawn and garden equipment in the Durango Mall.
Sears Hometown and Outlet Stores Inc. operates more than 750 franchise retail stores in 49 states.
It operates stores under various brand names including Sears Hometown, Sears Appliance & Hardware, Sears Home Appliance Showroom, Sears Outlet and Buddy’s Home Furnishings franchise.
Sears Holdings filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection Monday, and two Sears stores in Colorado, one in Lakewood and one in Centennial, are set to close.
Sears Holdings operates about 700 stores and employs about 68,000 employees.
