I think it is time to put the Second Amendment to use before my musket rusts away: we need well-regulated militias to protect us from ISIS, just as our founding fathers envisioned! But wait, militias were used for hundreds of years to decimate Native Americans, then in the Revolutionary War and because there was no organized law enforcement. And they required registration of guns, and civic duty for ownership. You had to prove you were a responsible citizen to own a gun. Plus, owning a concealed weapon was banned after the Civil War, and there were severe restrictions on who could own guns: only white males who owned land. And the founding fathers were way more worried about “standing armies” than self-defense, which is not even in the Second Amendment.
Wait, I need my own personal militia to protect me from what the Second Amendment has caused in America! Who is worried about ISIS (besides Fox News)? We should be worried about our own citizens – like Timothy McVeigh and the countless other terrorists who have not been “radicalized.” My militia might even come close to the intention of those old white guys who wrote the Second Amendment, which has been totally abused, misinterpreted and the reason for all the gun violence in this country.
