Good first half, slower second half.
Thats what doomed the Fort Lewis College womens lacrosse team Saturday as the Skyhawks fell 11-8 to Colorado College in Colorado Springs.
The second half, we dont come out as strong, and if we get down, we get down, and we need to figure out a way to overcome that, FLC head coach Kelsey MacDonald said.
The Skyhawks (4-6) played Colorado College to a stalemate in the first half, ending the period tied at 5. But the Tigers (4-8) tallied six after intermission to just three for the visitors, providing the difference.
MacDonald said that difference was as simple as it gets FLC wasnt outplayed, per se, but it couldnt find the net with its shots.
The edge was pretty much being able to capitalize on their shots as opposed to us not being able to capitalize on ours, the head coach said.
Ellie Carpenter had three goals and an assist, while Jessica Norby added two goals and a helper for FLC. Abby Kvidera, Brook Wineland and Amanda Cawker all scored once for FLC, while Jam Vertner and Marissa DiCecco added assists.
FLC goalie Alyssa Spencer made seven saves, and MacDonald said she was pleased with her teams defense, just not its ability to transition to offense.
Our defense was strong, and our defense back there is great, but it was more we won the ball on defense, and the connections arent where they need to be, she said.
FLC will have a week to work out the kinks before hosting Adams State at 2 p.m. Saturday.
