Second La Plata County nursing home this week reports COVID-19 outbreak

Cottonwood Inn Rehabilitation Center and Extended Care reports one resident, one staff member positive

Another La Plata County nursing home has reported an outbreak of COVID-19 cases – the second facility to report an outbreak this week.

According to state records released Wednesday, Cottonwood Inn Rehabilitation Center and Extended Care near Three Springs reported an outbreak Tuesday after one resident and one staff member tested positive.

Earlier this week, an outbreak was confirmed at Sunshine Gardens Country Home, east of Durango, after eight residents and four staff members tested positive.

A third active outbreak at a nursing home in La Plata County is at Four Corners Health Care Center, where 94 residents and 53 staff member have tested positive since an outbreak in November. A total of 22 residents have died.

An outbreak is defined as two or more cases, transmitted within a workplace, within a 14-day period. The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment updates the list of active outbreaks across the state every Wednesday.

New outbreaks reported this week include:
