Select wildlife areas to remain closed until April 15

Winter closures of two state wildlife areas and some Bureau of Land Management and city-owned properties near Durango will continue through April 15.

The areas, which provide critical refuge for deer and elk, are: Bodo State Wildlife Area, Perins Peak State Wildlife Area west of County Road 208, and BLM tracts at Perins Peak, Animas City Mountain and the Grandview area.

In addition, the portion of Perins Peak State Wildlife Area and BLM parcels east of County Road 208 will be closed through July 31. Signs that indicate the closures are displayed at popular trailheads in these areas.

The Smelter Mountain trail east of the Bodo State Wildlife Area will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. until April 15; dogs are prohibited on the trail until April 15, after which they must be on a leash.

Violations of closures can result in a citation and fine.
