State Sen. Ellen Roberts is managing to get around despite suffering a broken foot.
The Durango Republican has two stories about how it happened.
“In my mind, I was barrel racing. The reality is, it was a slip and fall at home. But I’m still going with the barrel racing,” Roberts said.
She got her second cast fitted Thursday and is using a crutch. It’s not her driving foot, so she is still able to get around and maintain her community schedule while the Legislature is recessed for the rest of the year.
“It’s annoying, but I’m working around it,” she said.
Early this summer before her injury, Roberts went to Mozambique for a week to work with members of its Parliament. The program brought experienced American lawmakers to the southeast African nation to help strengthen democratic institutions.
