Senator, check out another green deal

I understand Sen. Gardner’s criticism of the Green New Deal (“

I support U.S. House Resolution 763, the Energy Innovation and Carbon Dividend Act of 2019, a market-driven federal bill with bipartisan co-sponsors that addresses the risks of climate change by placing a fee on fossil fuel emissions and returning the money collected to the American people to spend as they see fit.

A border adjustment ensures that American businesses have a level playing field in global trade.

HR 763’s fee-and-dividend policy has been developed through a decade of conversations with stakeholders from across the political spectrum.

It’s based on personal choice, limits government intrusion and is specifically crafted to protect agriculture.

The dividend buffers family budgets from price impacts and acts as an economic stimulus, boosting local businesses.

Fees are phased in, giving communities a generation to adapt, and Colorado’s cleaner-burning natural gas plays a key role in the transition.

That’s market-driven innovation in service to a noble goal.

The House version of this bill has 26 Democratic co-sponsors ready to work across the aisle with Republicans on a reasonable, achievable solution that secures a safe, prosperous future for our children.

Citizens’ Climate Lobby has been actively seeking an opportunity to brief Sen. Gardner on the bill and its benefits to Colorado.

We need both parties working together to solve climate change.
