A property tax exemption may be available for the tax year 2019, affecting taxes payable in 2020 for qualifying seniors and disabled veterans, and surviving spouses of those who previously qualified.
For those who qualify, 50% of the first $200,000 of the actual value of their primary residence may be exempt. The state will fund the exemption if money is available.
Once approved, the exemption will remain in effect for future years, and the applicant should not reapply. To verify if you are already signed up or if you would like to receive an application, call the La Plata County Assessor’s Office at 382-6228. The senior application deadline is July 15.
