From Southwest sweaters to sequined pants, Katie Walter, owner of Serenity Spa and Boutique, aims to bring funky and affordable style to Main Avenue.
“There’s a lot of great stores on Main, but there’s nothing like this,” she said.
Walter has run the spa in town for about a year and moved twice, before opening in November on the 600 block of Main, in the former Toy Depot.
The boutique side of the store features a style Walter describes as “shabby chic Texas.”
She was inspired to offer the style because she could never find it in Durango and found herself buying it online.
Thus far, it’s been well received, especially by Black Friday shoppers, she said.
In addition to new clothing, the shop also carries, jewelry, teas, candles, skin care products and makeup. She plans to add racks of jeans and dresses that will be sold on consignment.
Walter started her spa shortly after becoming an aesthetician, and the addition of the boutique has been a good fit.
“Both my passions came together. I love shopping and the spa,” she said.
The spa offers facials, airbrush tanning, waxing and infrared detox body wraps. Infrared body wraps use heat to encourage relaxation and relieve pain, among other benefits, she said.
Massages are offered by appointment.
