To show appreciation to the region’s first responders, Serious Texas Bar-B-Q offered free food to all emergency personnel and their families during the weekend.
“We just wanted to show our support for all those who are there when things get bad,” Sam Schmidt, one of the co-owners of the restaurant said.
“There wasn’t any one thing that sparked it. We thought that because of Sept. 11, it would be a good time to do it and show recognition for all the hard work they do.”
From Friday through Sunday, police, firefighters, paramedics who patronized the Serious Texas Bar-B-Q’s two locations in Durango, at 650 South Camino del Rio and 3535 Main Ave. were offered the deal. At the restaurant’s northern location, assistant manager Brookelyn Blea said the weekend was pretty busy.
“It’s been really good,” she said.
“We’ve seen quite a few (first responders) come in. Their families are all really happy. There’s just been a lot of appreciation. It’s good to be a part of a company that does something like this for their community.”
The offer extended to the restaurant’s four other locations throughout Colorado and New Mexico. In a Facebook post, officials for Serious Texas Bar-B-Q said military personnel won’t have to wait long for their free meal.
“Don’t worry about active military & veterans – Veteran’s Day is right around the corner, and we will be honoring you then!” the post states.
