Sex ed class for students to be held

The Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Durango will offer a free sexual education course for grades six through nine beginning March 26. Adapted from the Our Whole Lives curriculum, the 10-class secular education program provides accurate, developmentally appropriate information through a values- based curriculum and holistic approach.

In a time when schools nationwide and locally are reconsidering or discontinuing their sexuality education programs, UUFD is offering this course at no charge. A required parent orientation will be held from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Sunday (March 12). The class affirms parents’ role as their children’s primary sexuality educators. The course includes the parent orientation, 10 Sunday workshops including a light dinner and all materials. Registration is capped at 15 students. Course teachers are trained OWL facilitators Anna Royer and Jeffrey Hamner, both residents of Durango with backgrounds working with families and youth.
