Sheriff says 1 dead after flooding in northern Colorado

RUSTIC – One person has been found dead and two other people may be missing after flooding and mudslides in northern Colorado, according to the area’s sheriff.

One body was found Tuesday night in Poudre Canyon, but crews were not able to immediately recover it, Larimer County Sheriff Justin Smith said in Facebook post Wednesday.

Several structures in an area just west of the town of Rustic where the body was found were damaged or destroyed but some residents were able to get out safely, he said.

A spokesperson for the Colorado Department of Transportation told the Coloradoan that the flooding triggered six mudslides. Colorado Highway 14, which runs along the Poudre River through the canyon, was temporarily closed because of debris on the road.

More rain was possible in the area Wednesday.
