On a recent visit to a popular local restaurant, I saw a prominently displayed sign that reads: “Guns are welcome on premises. Please keep all weapons holstered unless need arises. In such a case, judicious marksmanship is appreciated.”
The owner obviously wants more guns in the restaurant. Is this intended to make me feel more safe? It doesn’t – any more than welcoming every country in the world to pack a nuclear bomb and be judicious will make me feel more safe.
Apparently, this restaurant’s owners also think using guns on other people is a good premise for a joke. I don’t get it. When did guns become funny? I believe shooting a gun at another person for any reason will never, ever be a joke.
I will take my business where my safety is their serious concern.
