Shoppers can support local businesses and earn a $50 gift card to one of 19 businesses at the same time through Durango’s fall North Main District Rewards Program that runs through Oct. 31.

The program initially launched in spring 2020 as a way to bolster local businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic, said Tanya Clegg, director of marketing and communications for the Business Improvement District. The program continued in the holiday season last year, totaling $233,792 generated in local spending between the two rewards program periods, Clegg said.

Clegg said the spring and holiday rewards programs held last year were large successes.

The 2020 holiday rewards program was sponsored by Bank of Colorado, Morehart Murphy Regional Auto Center, La Plata County Economic Development Alliance and the town of Bayfield. It generated nearly $120,000 in spending at local businesses, while the 2020 spring program generated $115,000 in local spending. The spring program was sponsored by Bank of Colorado and Morehart Murphy Regional Auto Center.

This fall, shoppers who spend $300 or more at stores in the North Main District will receive a $50 gift card after they submit their receipts online at www.northmaindistrict.org/rewards.

The businesses within the program include retail, restaurant, personal services and accommodation.

“BID was looking for ways to support the businesses during the pandemic and encourage people to shop local,” Clegg said. “We saw another city that did something similar that rewarded shoppers and so we took that idea and we tweaked it to fit Durango.”

Clegg added that another holiday rewards program is scheduled for this winter. That program won’t be limited to the North Main District but will include the whole Business Improvement District, which “includes Second Avenue, Camino del Rio and all the businesses going up Main Avenue,” Clegg said.

Four Corners Community Bank sponsors the Business Improvement District’s fall rewards program.

Shoppers can submit their receipts from over 80 businesses within the North Main District. Shoppers can submit their receipts for a gift card to the following businesses: 81301 Coffee, Allison Ragsdale Photography, April’s Garden, Cole’s Chop Shop, Durango Artisans Foods, Durango Doughworks, Durango Outdoor Exchange, Ski Barn, Hampton Inn Durango, Happy Pappy’s Pizza & Wings, Homeslice Pizza, Pathways Physical Therapy, Pet Haus, Sage Farm Fresh Eats, Salt 360 Float, Union Social House, Wefill, Woodhouse Day Spa and Zia Taqueria.
