Shutterbugs

More than 60 photographers featured in ‘EXPOSURE’

It’s been almost two years to the day since Cara Weston visited Open Shutter gallery.

For that visit, Weston was the guest of honor for a three-generation exhibit of work by the famed California photography family.

Weston wasn’t on hand for Friday’s opening of Open Shutter’s fourth annual “EXPOSURE” group exhibit, but as the juror, her influence were felt nonetheless. Weston made her selections digitally from her California home. Open Shutter owner Margy Dudley announced the winners during the opening reception.

The gallery received 227 submissions, and the final exhibit will include 76 images by 63 photographers. The submissions came from Durango, Bayfield, Cortez, Dolores and Telluride, as well as a number of states and nations as diverse as Iceland, Canada, the United Kingdom and Thailand. The youngest exhibitor is 9-year old Durangoan Jordan Stanley, whose father, Shaun, is a staff photographer for The Durango Herald.

Awards were given for Best of Show, Best Black & White and Best Color, as well as seven Excellence awards in the open category and two Excellence awards in the 18-and-under junior division. The public also can vote for a People’s Choice award, which will be tallied at the close of the exhibit Jan. 9.
