Sigman is right; time for Gardner to go

Never thought I’d see the day when Mike Sigman (Herald, Jan. 6) and I agreed on something: Cory Gardner must go.

We do, however, have very different reasons for reaching that conclusion. I appreciate Gardner’s sudden, uncharacteristic testosterone surge that enabled him to call out Jeff Sessions and Donald Trump as the liars they are. As we now have heard, these two evidently had assured Gardner that the Cole Memorandum, which essentially lets those states that had legalized marijuana have their legalized marijuana industries, would remain in force; and then Colorado would not have to worry about being attacked by the U.S. Justice Department.

So now those paragons of truth, Sessions and Trump, are going to ignore what they told Gardner, and ignore the will of Colorado voters, and aggressively pursue prosecution. And Gardner is incensed at having been lied to.

I have a question for our good senator: You thought you were too special to be lied to by Trump? Really?

Now, I’m not sure how much hair it took for Gardner to say what he said, but this should only be the beginning of his indignation. If the affront to Gardner’s ethics is that he has been lied to, well, Cory, time has come to start calling out the president on all the other numerous lies he has told, many of which also affect your constituents, the people of Colorado.

Time to stand up. Or find a new line of work.
