Silverton did a nice job with celebration

The fireworks would rival any big city display and were enhanced by watching them from a campground and not having to join the traffic scene.

The occasional campground security drive through and mounted sheriff patrol was seen as friendly and not an intrusion.

The family theme may have gone overboard in the park, which traditionally held the rhubarb pie festival. It was replaced by numerous bouncy houses with noisy compressors. One of these off to the side would have been adequate. Please limit vendors to food and beverages.

The brass band is a tradition, bringing performers great distances to make this event special. Wouldn’t it be nice if there were chairs under a tarp for viewers to enjoy the band while providing protection from the sun and potential showers? Most of us wouldn’t mind throwing a buck in a can to sit down.

Sadly, many adults were seen walking away from the park as there was no shade or seating. The Tim Sullivan Band for the street dance was a great idea, and the band played continuously with no breaks. Although its not easy dancing on gravel, all ages had a great time with the nice mix of music.

Let’s hope that there is a revival in the rhubarb pie festival and that those 300 great pies of past years aren’t the hard work of just a few people in the community.

Why not add some games that adults could enjoy in that long afternoon break before the fireworks?
