Simmons, a senior, earned a spot in the 200-meter dash finals after taking fourth in the preliminaries with a 26.37-sprint at the CHSAA Class 2A Track and Field State Championships on Thursday in Lakewood.
She also placed seventh in the high jump, clearing a personal-record-tying 5 feet and earning the Bobcats three points, their only points of the day.
Horizontally, Wyatt Hayes took 14th in the boys long jump, leaping 19 feet. The freshman missed qualifying for finals in the 400, finishing 16th in 53.23.
That was a trend Thursday.
