The annual “Singing with Santa” caroling procession and community Christmas tree lighting will be held Friday, Nov. 26, in Buckley Park.

“Singing with Santa has been a great annual holiday tradition since the mid-1980s. It’s fun to connect with friends and neighbors, and to experience a magical night downtown,” said Tim Walsworth, event planner, and executive director of the Durango Business Improvement District, in a news release.

Each year, about 1,000 children and their parents gather for the event.

Staging for the caroling procession will take place between 5:30 and 5:45 p.m. at TBK Bank at 259 W. Ninth St. At 6 p.m., Santa will arrive in his horse-drawn stagecoach to lead the procession north toward Buckley Park. Glow sticks and caroling lyrics will be provided.

The tree lighting will take place at dusk, around 6:15 p.m., or whenever the procession arrives at the park. The 100-foot tree will be strung with 1,600 LED lights – a feat made possible by Eagle Crane.

“Festivities at Buckley Park also include (while they last) free hot chocolate and cookies thanks to Carver Brewing Co., McDonald’s, the DoubleTree Hotel, Highway 3 Roadhouse, City Market, Zia Taqueria and Hermosa Café,” Walsworth said.

Photo opportunities with Santa will be available in the park until 7:30 p.m. Those interested should bring their own camera.

The city of Durango, La Plata Electric Association, Durango Party Rental and La Plata County Mounted Patrol will also help with the event.
