Fort Lewis College’s basketball squads were well represented on the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference all-conference teams.

On the men’s side, junior guard Obi Agbim and senior guard Malik Whitaker both made First-Team All-RMAC. Agbim is the Skyhawks’ leading scorer at 14.7 points per game and leads the team with three assists per game. Whitaker is the second-leading scorer with 12.2 points per game.

Senior guard Junior Garbrah and junior forward Brayden Carter both earned Second-Team All-RMAC accolades. They both average 10.2 points per game, and Carter is tied with Whitaker with a team-high 5.1 rebounds per game.

“Four of the top 20 players in the league is a testament to the hard work that the whole team is putting in,” Fort Lewis men’s coach Bob Pietrack said. “Those four have had really nice seasons. I think we have a couple of other guys that could easily have been recognized as well. But I’m very proud of everything that we're doing within our program.”

On the women’s side, sophomore guard Lanae Billy made First-Team All-RMAC. Billy scored a team-high 16 points per game and was tied for first in the RMAC with 3.2 steals per game.

“She got her recognition last year for her ability to shoot the three and scoring the ball,” Fort Lewis women’s coach Taylor Harris said about Billy. “This year, I think she got first-team because of her defensive efforts, being so up there in steals not only in the RMAC but nationally. She was still able to score and shoot being a focal point all season long. I also think she grew in her ability to handle the ball. She played a lot more point guard this year as well.”

Senior forward Kelsey Sorenson capped off her Fort Lewis career by making the RMAC Honorable Mention list. Sorenson averaged 12.2 points per game and 5.5 boards per game during a season where she dealt with some injuries and the Skyhawks lost some frontcourt depth as the season went on.

“There were a lot of teams in the league where she just created tremendous mismatches for them, and that led to that recognition for her,” Harris said about Sorenson. “She was consistently a solid player that didn't make too many mistakes. Early on this year, her minutes weren't as high as we wanted them to be because of fouls. But especially later in the year, she watched film and studied and learned how to stay on the court longer.”

Former Durango star named top RMAC women’s freshman

Outside of Fort Lewis, Mason Rowland was named RMAC Freshman of the Year. Rowland averaged 14.7 points per game in her freshman season.

She was also a big part of Colorado Mesa winning the RMAC regular-season title. She also earned second-team All-RMAC honors.
