Skijoring – the next Hollywood blockbuster?

Durango company seeks money for documentary
Silverton’s skijoring competition is held annually on Blair Street.

A Durango-based company is asking for support to produce a documentary about skijoring, called “Ice Cowboys.”

Fastforward Media recently began a fundraising campaign for the documentary to promote the sport of equestrian skijoring – people on skis being pulled by horses along a race course.

The company plans to film at two skijoring events this winter, one Feb. 13-15 in Silverton and the other March 6-8 in Leadville.

“Our project is about the people that put on the show,” said Matt Crossett, director of the documentary, in a news release. “Skijoring is a spectator sport, and those cowboys and skiers love a crowd to cheer them on.”

The public can invest in the project through Main Street Crowd, a community and economic development platform administered by the Four Corners Film Office. The campaign began Jan. 12 and will continue through Feb. 2, with a goal of raising $10,000 or more.

Those who contribute $20 or more get an autographed photo; those who contribute $1,000 or more get tickets to the film’s premiere, tickets on the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad and a one-night hotel stay in Silverton.

As of noon Friday, the project had raised $5,785, according to the campaign website.
