Team will play final home game against top-ranked Metro on Saturday

The Fort Lewis College volleyball team dropped a tight match with Colorado Christian University on Friday inside Whalen.
The Skyhawks took the second set in inspired fashion, 25-20, but dropped the following two to fall to 6-13 overall and 6-9 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. CCU improved to 10-13, 7-8.
The difference-maker in the match came defensively at the net with the Cougars tallying 12 blocks compared with six for the Skyhawks. Fort Lewis had 48 kills to CCU’s 44 and hit .120 for the match. Alexis Hobie led the team in kills, amassing 13 to go along with nine digs. Kamryn Lopez had 20 digs. Payton Harmann dished out 29 assists with five kills.
The first set was back-and-forth, with FLC leading 7-4 and later 12-11. CCU found set point at 24-19. The Skyhawks rallied behind a pair of kills from Cameron Callahan and an ace from Hobie to pull within one, but CCU eventually took the set, 25-23.
The momentum carried over into the second set as FLC soared ahead to a 9-4, punctuated by a block from Natalia Lambos. The Cougars pulled within two at 19-17, but late kills from Avynn La Rose and Hobie helped FLC close out the set on top, 25-20.
In the third set, however, CCU responded by jumping out to an 8-2 lead and extended it to16-9. The Skyhawks went on a 7-2 run that cut CCU’s lead to 20-18, but the Cougars closed the set on a 5-1 run to win it, 25-19.
In the fourth set, CCU took an 8-5 lead. FLC fought back to tie the score at 10-10. CCU then went up 15-12, but FLC rallied and went up, 18-16. CCU, however, was able to close out the set on top, 25-20.
Fort Lewis will now host the No. 1 team in the nation, Metropolitan State University of Denver in its final home game at 4 p.m. Saturday.
