The Fort Lewis College women’s track and field team completed its first event as a varsity program Friday.
The Skyhawks’ indoor team placed fourth out of five teams in the women’s standings of the Western State Opener in Gunnison. FLC scored 16 points as a team. CSU-Pueblo won the meet with 183 points, followed by Western State (130), Colorado Mesa (79) and Adams State (41).
Stephanie Dexter finished 10th in the 200-meter dash in 28.82 seconds. Whitney Rowe of Colorado Mesa won the event in 25.17. FLC had five other girls – Alexis Cox, Julia Boyd-Helm, Krista Glock, Alexis Keopangna and Devin Kroecker – run in the 200, and they finished 13th through 17th, respectively.
Angela Grogan finished fourth out of four women in the 400-meter dash in 1:16.72. CSU-Pueblo’s Sydni Riley won the event in 1:00.89.
Emily Bryant took seventh out of nine runners in the 800-meter run in 2:36.40. Rachael Lopez of CSU-Pueblo won that event in 2:21.41.
Erin Renner was eighth of eight women in the 1-mile run in 6:10.12. Western State’s Alicja Konieczek won in 5:10.59.
In the 3,000-meter run, Kristen Ascencio took 11th for FLC in 12:03.92, followed by teammate Chloe Boehlke in 12:10.40. Adams State’s Lauren Martin won in 10:06.04.
The women’s distance medley team of Boehlke, Boyd-Helm, Bryant and Stephanie Dexter took second in 14:09.04, finishing behind a group of unattached runners, who finished in 13:31.27. They were the only two teams in the event.
FLC’s Carley Carter was unable to record a height in the pole vault, and Caitlyn Espinosa, the goalkeeper on the FLC women’s soccer team, took last out of 12 women in the shot put with a throw of 9.17 meters. Western State’s Caitlin Arnold won the shot put with a throw of 12.57 meters.
FLC will hit the indoor track again Jan. 24 in Alamosa for the Adams State Open.
